British Quad Supermoto Report (By Dick Law)

Round Three of the Norasport ACU British Supermoto Championship involved an increasing number of enthusiastic quad riders back to the ever popular Three Sisters Raceway just outside Wigan.
Such number of riders made for quality of racing as anyone of these super fast quad racers could have taken the overall win and left the venue with the largest amount of championship points.
In timed practice it was all Michael Taylor who, on the very last lap set a time almost half a second faster than the rest of the pack but he wouldn’t have it all his own way come race time and that was soon to be proved when the lights went out for race one.
Mat Lawry got the holeshot at the start of the first race, but as he reached the end of the off-road section for the first time he spun his quad and relegated himself to the back of the pack. Shaking his head he set about the task of making amends.
Colin Jackson inherited the lead but had the fast Taylor with his two-stroke Yamaha buzzing in his ear and as the started the third lap Taylor slipped by and into the lead as Jackson went wide leaving an opportunity that was just too good to be missed.
A lap later Gareth Thomas powered his way into second, just as Lawry found his way into fourth. Jackson was showing a bit of ring rust at this stage and needed a little more concentration.
With two laps to go it looked like it was going to be a grandstand finish, but as Thomas pressured Taylor for the lead he crashed out the win to Taylor. Motocross regulars Bryne and Walton impressed the crowd with spectacular air time over the now famous tarmac tabletop; showing their skills came in very helpful on the more technical sections. The fast starting Jackson kept his cool collecting second place while in third was Lawry making up for his first lap spin. A good show by all.

Once again Lawry got the holeshot in Race two, but this time didn’t make a mistake as just feet behind him for the whole race Thomas and Taylor were squabbling over second which could have gone either way as the lead changed hands lots of times within the eight lap race.
Down the field more exciting battles were going on with Sam Hodgson passing Chris Wright on the last lap and came home in fourth place while Wright held onto fifth, leaving the rest to the pack to sort it out amongst themselves.

With Jackson missing from the start grid the third and final race of the day was a no holes bared three way fight between Lawry, Taylor and Thomas as the rest were left fighting in there wake.
Lawry got the holeshot with Thomas and Taylor just inches behind him and that was the pattern for the rest of the nine lap race, with Taylor and Thomas seeming to take turns at looking for a way passed Lawry.
But as the race finished, Lawry held on for the win, by less then half a second from Taylor, with Thomas just over a quarter of a second behind him, it was that close.
Hodgson was a well deserved fourth with Wright again in fifth. Some great racing down through the field saw new faces sliding it round the fast Wigan circuit improving their pace every lap. With the addition of Road legal racers Clark and Kelly showing that they will be in with a shout in the meetings to come. It was great to see O'l stalwart Ian Russel back in action saying a little more time down the Gym would see a stronger challenge from him soon.
The next round of the British Quad Supermoto Championships will be held at "Sportcity" - Manchester City football ground on the 3rd of July. Visit www.norasport.com for more details.
